(MARYVILLE, Mo.) — The No. 12 Jennies soccer team blanked Northwest Missouri, 5-0 on Friday afternoon at the Bearcat Pitch in Maryville.
The shutout was the Jennies’ (13-2-2, 8-1-1 MIAA) third straight and ninth overall this season. Senior midfielder Carly Stanley also tied the Jennies’ single-season assist record (10) in the contest.
Senior midfielder Becky Lackey scored the first of her two goals on the day in the 13th minute, taking a pass from Carly Stanley and finding the inside left portion of the Bearcats’ net.
Lackey second goal came in the 21st minute, giving UCM a 2-0 edge.
In the 28th minute, sophomore Julie Ireland scored her eighth goal of the season on a one-on-one situation with NWMSU’s goalkeeper, Sophie Malcom, increasing UCM’s lead to 3-0.
In the game’s second period, Becky Lackey found Amy Stewart who fired the ball over the goalkeeper’s head, putting the score at 4-0 in favor of UCM. The goal was Stewart’s first this season, while the assist was Lackey’s sixth.
The Jennies’ final score came in the 86th minute when Ireland scored off a deflection – her second goal of the game and ninth this season.
Senior goalkeeper Jessica Grindstaff improved to 7-1-0, logging all 90 minutes and saving six shots – a season high. She now owns six shutouts this season.
The Jennies will play their final regular season game on Sunday afternoon at Lindenwood for a 3:30 first kick.
