(TOPEKA, Kan.) — The Central Missouri Jennies (22-0, 8-0) beat the No. 12 Washburn Ichabods in straight sets Saturday to stay undefeated this season. Washburn (19-4,6-1 MIAA) was the only other team in the MIAA that had not lost a conference match.
The Ichabods took a small lead early in the first set, and were the first team to reach double digit points, at 10-8. The Jennies caught Washburn at 13-13, and were able to take the lead for the remainder of the set. The Jennies earned the last point of the set with a kill from Carly Sojka. Taylor Goodness had seven kills in the first set. Mackenzie Harding two kills and two blocks in the first set.
Central Missouri won the first and second point of match two, and went on to win the first seven of ten points in the match. The Ichabods were unable to catch the Jennies for the remainder of the match. The Jennies won four points in a row to reach match point, with a kill Haley Thompson and Harding. Sojka again finished the set with a kill. Sojka had five kills in the second match. Julia Bates had four attack attempts and four kills, with 14 assists. Thompson also had four kills, and a .667 hitting percentage.
In the final set of the match, Central Missouri won four points in a to start the match, with a kill by Harding and Goodness and a block from Harding and Lauren Dudgeon. The Jennies then won six of the next ten points to take a 10-4 lead over Washburn. The Ichabods were never able to break 20 points, with the Jennies ending the match at 25-16 with a kill from Harding. Goodness had six kills in the third set, and a .625 hitting percentage. Sojka also had a .625 hitting percentage with five kills. Harding had two kills for a .400 hitting percentage with three blocks. Bates again had two attack attempts and two kills, with twelve assists.
Goodness finished the match with 15 kills, Sojka right behind her with 12. Bates had seven kills for a .778 hitting percentage, one block, and 40 assists through three sets. Dudgeon had six kills, for a .545 hitting percentage, and three blocks in the match. Harding had five blocks and five kills in her second start this season.
Wednesday the Jennies will take on Emporia State in Emporia, Mo. at 7 p.m.
