Jennies volleyball wins again over Missouri Southern

(Joplin, Mo.) — The Central Missouri Jennies (23-1, 9-1 MIAA) win their  second match of the season over Missouri Southern (4-20, 0-11 MIAA) in three sets, 25-18, 25-9, 25-22.

The Jennies took a quick lead in the first set, starting the match with a serving ace by Carly Sojka, and earning four more points to follow. The Lions earned one point before the Jennies answered with four more points to make their lead 9-2. Central Missouri earned one and two points at a time for the rest of the match, Taylor Goodness finishing the set with a block at 25-18. Goodness had five kills in the first set, and hit .571. Sojka had three serving aces, and two kills.

Central Missouri won ten uncontested points to start the second set. Goodness tallying three kills, and Annie Reilly with two serving aces in the streak. The Jennies won five of six points, to take the score to 4-17, with two kills from Becca Blaise and a serving ace from Courtney Cornell. Julia Bates finished the second set with a serving ace. Goodness and Haley Thompson both hit .600 in the set. Sojka had two attack attempts, that were both kills in the set. Bates had 10 assists.

The Jennies had a lead for the start of the third set, winning seven of the first ten points, quickly making the score 10-4. Central Missouri kept at least a three point lead for a majority of the match, but the Lions held the Jennies at 22 points to come within a point of catching them. The Jennies allowed one more point before finishing the match with a kill from Bates and then Thompson. Bates had another 10 assists in the set, with one serving ace and a kill. Thompson and Goodness both had four kills.

Mikalee Monachino started her first match of the season, and had two assists and three digs in the set. Goodness finished the match with 13 total kills, hitting .450, with four blocks. Maddie Jones had five kills, and hit .417, with two blocks. Thompson had ten kills, and hit .350 through three sets. Sojka had 6 kills, three serving aces, and nine digs in the match. Reilly had three serving aces and 13 digs in the match. Bates had 29 assists, with two kills and two serving aces in the match.

The Jennies next match will be Friday in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist. Saturday the Jennies will travel home for a match against Lindenwood.
