The UCM Jennies (10-5, 3-1 in MIAA) traveled to Hays, KS where they defeated the Ft. Hays Tigers in both games on Friday. On Saturday, the Jennies hit the road again to Kearney, NE to take on the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers where they split the two-game series.
Game 1: UCM 5 Ft. Hays 2
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard until the fourth inning when UCM’s Bailey Fowler scored on a fielding error to give the Jennies a 1-0 lead. Ft. Hays answered right back in the bottom of the inning on a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game 1-1. UCM took the lead for good in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Ashlyn Cook. The Jennies later added two more insurance runs in the sixth and went on to win 5-2.
Game 2: UCM 4 Ft. Hays 3
UCM scored two runs in the first inning on hits from Sydney Wellshear and Fowler. After the Tigers later added a run, UCM’s Makenzie Cooper singled to extend the Jennies lead to 3-1. Ft. Hays later tied the game in the third at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly. UCM took the lead back in the fifth inning when Fowler scored on a wild pitch. The Jennies went on to win 4-3.
Game 3: Nebraska-Kearney 6 UCM 1
The Jennies struggled to push across runs as they suffered their first MIAA loss of the season. Nebraska-Kearney led 3-0 until UCM’s Ashlyn Cook hit an RBI double to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Lopers. The Lopers scored three more runs and went on to defeat the Jennies 6-1.
Game 4: UCM 7 Nebraska-Kearney 5
UCM cracked the scoreboard after Wellshear stole home plate to give the Jennies a 1-0 lead. The Jennies extended their lead to 5-0 on RBIs from Wellshear, Makenzie McAtee, and Abbey Fischer. Nebraska-Kearney rallied back to tie the game at 5-5 in the third inning. UCM took the lead for good in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout from Fischer and then an added insurance run on an RBI single from Cook. UCM went on to win 7-5.
