John Tuckwiller

John C. (Jace) Tuckwiller, 81, of Warrensburg, died Sunday, April 17, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, Missouri.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the funeral home. The burial will be immediately following at Hazel Grove Cemetery in Saline County with full military honors. Pallbearers will be W. C. Tuckwiller, Greg Carter, Jeff Jenkins, David Akeman, Roger Akeman and Bill Brunjes. Honorary pallbearers will be Davis Lee Dennis, Harold Charles, Jim Tye, Bruce Bratten, Gary Hood, Jon Schroeder, Junior Steelman and Charles Elwell.

John was born Nov. 4, 1934, in rural Saline County, Missouri, son of John L. and Ruby L. (Crowder) Tuckwiller. He grew up along with five siblings on the family farm and attended the Community Church at Houstonia, Missouri. John graduated high school in Houstonia, where he developed many lifelong friendships. Shortly after high school, he joined the Marine Corps, serving in California and Korea. After discharge from the service, John had many life experiences with jobs in Arizona, Texas, Nebraska and Kansas City. Eventually he settled in Northeast Johnson County in Missouri.

In 1963, John married Jackie K. Evans in Warrensburg. After living in Marshall for four years, they purchased a farm north of Warrensburg, where he raised cattle and trained stock dogs. John’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, hunting, dancing and raising his vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed eating home cooked meals prepared by his wife and other family members.

Survivors include his wife Jackie of 52 years; two daughters, Carolyn Campbell of Kansas City, and Diane Collins and husband Stuart of Knob Noster; two grandchildren, Madeline Marie and Walker Jace Collins; three sisters, Ellie Carter and Sue Evans and husband, Gene, of Warrensburg, and Mary Peterman of Knob Noster; a brother, Charles Tuckwiller and wife, Carol, of Marshall; an aunt, Mabel Lea Hayner of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Meyer.
