Katie May Gudde, 97, of Centerview, Missouri, died March 27 at Holden Manor Care Center, Holden, Missouri.
Katie was born June 13, 1918, to Edward Harrison Good and Prudie May (Everette) Good in Independence, Missouri. She attended Bristol School until the sixth grade. Katie, her mother and three brothers moved to a farm near Holden, to help her grandparents run the farm. She attended Latour High School and graduated in 1936. Katie then attended Central Missouri Teacher College for three years. She taught at King School from 1937 until 1941, and then at Glendale School from 1941 to 1942. Katie moved to California and married Christopher Lewis Gudde, a soldier at Fort Ord California, on Aug. 22, 1942. They returned to Missouri in 1946. Their first child was born July 3, 1946, named Laura E. Gudde. In 1949, they had their second child, C.L. Gudde, followed by another child, Joann, in 1951. Katie worked as a cashier at Gerbes Super Market for 20 years. Katie was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and served on many boards and civic groups, which included state PTA president, VIC Club of Centerview, Alter Society, and leader of the local 4-H Club in the Holden and Centerview area.
Katie is survived by one son, C.L. Gudde, of Centerview; one daughter, Laura Atkins, and husband, Larry, of Holden, Missouri; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Christopher Gudde; one daughter, Joann Gudde; and three brothers, Everett Good, Charles Good and George Good.
There will be a Rosary Service at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, immediately followed by visitation at 6 p.m.
A second visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holden with Father Pete Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Holden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church Building Fund.
