Lloyd (Don) Duffer, 93, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died July 3, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Services will be held Friday July 6, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church of Knob Noster with Pastor Don Hill officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Internment will follow in the Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors.
Lloyd was born June 20, 1925, in Proctor, Missouri, the son of Everett & Nancy (Crain) Duffer. He had six brothers and sisters whom are deceased.
He married Deloris (Drinkwater) Duffer on Sept. 24, 1949. They had two children, Randall (Billie) Duffer and Rhonda (Tom) Neal. Lloyd loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, and you could see him riding his lawn tractor around the farm every day.
He was sworn into the Navy on Oct. 28, 1943. He went to boot camp in Farragut, Idaho. After training he was sent to Gunnery school in San Diego, California. After he was assigned to the USNS, David C. Shanks and traveled to several Pacific Islands carrying fuel and ammunition.
He was also assigned to the SS David Hewes and USAT Haloakala. Lloyd was discharged in St. Louis, Missouri, March 26, 1946. After the military he was a police officer in Knob Noster, and also worked at Whiteman AFB in Civil Service until his retirement.
He was a member of the American Legion post 131, a Mason, and the VFW. Lloyd attended and was a member of the First Christian Church of Knob Noster. Even though he suffered a lot of pain, he continued to keep his sense of humor and made people laugh.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of the home, Delores Duffer. His two children, Randall Duffer and Rhonda Neal. Three grandchildren, Tammy O’Malley (Duffer), Chase Duffer, and Lance Neal and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dan Duffer of Denver, Colorado and Russell Duffer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to The First Christian Church of Knob Noster or the American Legion of Warrensburg and can be left in care of the funeral home.
