Luther Gann Jr., 95, of Holden, Missouri, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Warrensburg.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Elder Warren Stowell of Holden Community of Christ Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Holden Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by Holden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 5844 and Munday-Hancock, Post 90 of the American Legion.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Luther was born Nov. 26, 1918, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Luther Gann Sr. and Beulah May (Koch) Gann. The family moved to the Holden area when he was a small child. Luther grew up around the Holden area on several different farms, attended several country schools and Holden High School. Luther joined the Army in July 1940 and served in the European theater where he earned three bronze stars. He returned to Holden in November 1945 where he met and married Ermie Hancock on Sept. 11, 1946. He earned his living as a dairy farmer and foundry worker at Stahl Specialty Co. in Kingsville, Missouri. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and his grandchildren. He was a member of the Holden Community of Christ Church.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth, George, Joseph and James; two sisters, Martha and Mary; and his wife, Ermie, of 55 years. He is survived by his four sons, Glen (Judy) of Raymore, Missouri; Herb (Barb) of Belton, Missouri; Carl (Michele) of Fox Island, Washington; Lyle of Aurora, Illinois; five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and extended family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Holden Cemetery Association or Holden Senior Center.
