(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Warrensburg Main Street Inc. won three awards at the Missouri Main Street Revitalization Awards ceremony on Thursday at the Phillips Hotel in Kansas City, Mo., according to a news release.
Main Street was recognized for its 2012 Day of Caring where more than 75 volunteers throughout the community and the University of Central Missouri worked more than 650 man hours in a single day to revitalize the alley between Pine Street and the Union Pacific Railroad Depot.
Jo Henning, of Old Drum Gallery and Trading Company, received the Business Excellence Award for developing programs and events for the downtown business district. Henning has coordinated the Friday Arts Walks and The Dickens Christmas held in December.
Rhonda Gelbach was recognized as the Missouri Main Street Connection Volunteer of the Year. With her help, Main Street’s Piccadilly Auction raised more than twice the donations than the previous year’s event and has been instrumental in organizing this year’s downtown concerts and other events, according to the news release.
Main Street director Julie Turnipseed was recognized for her 26 years of involvement in Main Street here and in other communities.
“Missouri Main Street Connection congratulates Warrensburg for embracing the opportunity for training and mentoring from Missouri Main Street, and is now enjoying the success of their revitalization plan,” said Gayla Roten, Missouri Main Street Connection state director, in a news release.
