Marvin L. Cass, 79, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Thursday, March 3, at his home.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday, March 8, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home of Warrensburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Brother Charles Brant officiating and with Masonic service officiated by Scott Stohmeyer.

Marvin was born Jan. 22, 1937, the son of George Mason and Elizabeth (Kness) Cass in St. Louis.

On July 1, 1960, in Benton, Arkansas, he and Marilyn Hathcoat were united in marriage.

Marvin served active duty U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1977. He retired as a First Sergeant with the rank of Master Sergeant. While active, he served as an aircraft mechanic, as a drug counselor and in many other positions. He proudly served as a member of the Strategic Air Command.

After retiring from the Air Force, Marvin continued to work as a civil servant at Whiteman Air Force Base before retiring in 1999. He also served as an alderman for the town of Knob Noster.

Marvin was very proud of his years of service to the Ararat Shrine of Kansas City. He joined the Shriners in 1988, served as President of the Warrensburg Shrine for 3 terms, served as the Provost Outside Events Coordinator, and was Provost Marshall in 1995. He was dedicated to children and transported many children to Shriner’s Hospitals in the Midwest.

Marvin served as the Worshipful Master of Knob Noster Masonic Lodge No. 245.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Y. Cass; two sons, Russell Cass and Robert Cass and wife, Linda; a sister, Georganne (Leland) Fitzgerald; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janet L. Layton, and a brother, Alfred L. Cass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals and can be left in care of the funeral home.
