Mary Elizabeth Van Meter, 97, of Holden, Missouri, died Saturday, March 21, at Holden Manor Care Center.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Holden with Father Pete Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Holden.
There will be a Rosary Service at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, immediately followed by visitation at 5:30 p.m.
Elizabeth was born April 23, 1917, in Centerview, Missouri, the daughter of Fred John Colster and May (Gardner) Colster. She graduated from high school in Warrensburg. She was united in marriage to Aubrey Hammond Van Meter on Nov. 16, 1939, in Warrensburg. The couple lived on a farm south of Odessa until moving to Kingsville on March 1, 1949. In 1958, they started Kingsville Livestock Auction, which was the family business until they sold it in 1978. The couple moved to Holden in 1984.
Elizabeth was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Holden where she was a member of the Womens Altar Society. She was a bridge club member and she enjoyed all card games. She enjoyed horseback riding for many years. Elizabeth enjoyed meeting people and spending time with her family and friends. She was a cherished wife, mother and grandmother to her large family.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, John and Bev Van Meter; Joe and Mary Van Meter; and Junior and Donna Van Meter, all of Holden; and Ted and Beth Van Meter of Kingsville; foster daughter, Marie Dewey Cobb, and husband, Mike, of Windsor; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey, in 1998; two brothers, Marion Colster and Marvin Colster; granddaughter, Tina Van Meter; and two great-grandsons, Josh Van Meter and Brian Van Meter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Calvary Cemetery Association in care of the funeral chapel.
