Maurice Don Cooley Sr., 83, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Monday, March 2, at his home.
Maurice was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Homestead, Florida, the son of Charles A. and Donnie (Whitehurst) Cooley. He was raised in Auburndale, Florida, where he graduated from high school. He married Barbara Prescott on Aug. 12, 1951, in Valdosta, Georgia. Maurice later married Shirley Kersey on Feb. 16, 1967, in Florida. He was a surveyor with the state of Florida for 12 years. He later became an engineer for the highway department in Manatee County, a position he held for over 20 years. Maurice retired as an inspector supervisor with the highway department. He served on the board of county commissioners. He moved from Bradenton, Florida, to Warrensburg in 2012. Maurice enjoyed fishing and never liked missing a good garage sale or flea market.
He is survived by eight children, Marcia Bouchard and husband, Ron, of Lady Lake, Florida; Janice Roberts, of Dinwiddie, Virginia; Karen Blavio and husband, Dan, of Bartow, Florida; Laura Cooley, of Cape Coral, Florida; Maurice Cooley Jr., of Cape Coral; Michael Cooley and wife, Andrea, of Sacramento, California; Maurice Douglas Cooley, of Sedalia, Missouri; and Veronica McCluer and husband, Greg, of Warrensburg; 11 grandchildren, Nathan, Marcus, Philip, Brittany, Chance, Tiffnie, Charlene, Morgan and Alandra; eight great-grandchildren, Sierra, Nathan, Miles, Jaydon, Amanda, Almose, Jacob and Kairi; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters and one grandchild.
Services and burial will be scheduled with Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida.
