Michael Lee Hough, 68 of Holden, Missouri, died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden. A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the funeral home in Holden with Pastor Mike Wakeman officiating.  Interment will follow in Pisgah Cemetery, north of Chilhowee.

To further celebrate Mike’s life, following interment, there will be a gathering at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jack’s Redneck Country Club in Holden.

Mike was born Nov. 4, 1947, in Holden, the son of Donald Hurley Hough and L. Frances (McClain) Hough. He was a graduate of Holden High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Central Missouri State University (now UCM) in Warrensburg. Mike was an industrial arts and drafting teacher for three years at Kingsville , H.S., and for 27 years at Pleasant Hill H.S., retiring in 2000. He was also a well respected coach who left a lasting impression on many student athletes.   In retirement, he drove a tour bus which took him all over the United States and Canada. It was during this time that Mike met Deborah Ann (Fuller) Shapiro. The couple were married on June 1, 2012, in Kansas City.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie; son, Russ Hough of Holden; daughter, Jamey Hough of Lee’s Summit; three stepdaughters, Julie Hoch and husband, Nick, of Prairie Village, Kansas, Jennifer Jones and husband, Spencer, of Lenexa, Kansas, and Katie Shapiro of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, DeAnn Livingston of Holden; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Sohl and Trey Don Michael Sohl, both of Lee’s Summit; and step-granddaughter, Olive Anne Hoch. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

It was Mike’s wishes that any contributions be made in support of an education fund for his grandchildren.
