The university has released more details to the new student contract that will go into effect this fall.
The “Learning to a Greater Degree Contract” will require entering freshmen to reside in campus housing for two years.
The university is also looking at the possibility of a guaranteed housing rate for these students during their second year of residency.
According to Jeff Murphy, assistant director of Media Relations, a committee of university members is developing a proposal related to the “15 to Finish” scholarships, which must be approved by the administration. “This is a financial award that will likely be available to students who enter campus under the contract, after they begin their senior year, or complete 90 semester hours,” Murphy said. “We expect this to be finalized before student orientation begins this summer.”
A committee is also working with Sodexo, UCM’s dining services provider, regarding extended dining options.
This would include food choices and times of availability. Information will be available once decisions have been made.
This week, the university launched the “Fuel for Finals” initiative. This includes extended hours at the James C. Kirkpatrick Library during the last two weeks of finals, plus extended hours for Einstein Bros on select days.
Additionally, the first 100 students who visit the library at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 5, will be treated to breakfast burritos, fresh fruit and tater tots served by Dr. Ambrose and Dr. Curtis.
“Such activities are consistent with the university’s desire to provide a ‘24/7’ campus environment that is focused on student learning and opportunities that extend beyond the classroom,” Murphy said.
Murphy added that the university is reaching out to parents and prospective students regarding the contract, emphasizing that its purpose is to help students graduate on time.
“We have had a wide range of enthusiastic responses, from prospective students, parents, faculty and staff, and importantly, current students that appreciate the added support and focus on college completion and student success,” said President Chuck Ambrose.
