Planet Sub contributes to Earth Day activity

By ALYSSA CLIFTON

(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG)— Planet Sub sold more than 230 sandwiches on Earth Day, which translates to an equal amount of new trees as part of a partnership between the sandwich shop and a Trees for the Future.

Planet Sub joined with Trees for the Future to plant one tree for every sandwich sold during Earth Day on Tuesday, according to a news release. The company’s goal for its 35 stories was to plant 8,000 trees.

The local Planet Sub was “extremely busy during lunch rush hour,” says Matt Jones, night manager at Planet Sub.

The store had a third more sales than usual during their lunch rush.

Lacey Hites, a graduate student at Central Missouri, participated in Planet Sub’s Earth Day activity by buying a sandwich when she found out what their plans were.

“I think it’s great that Planet Sub has made initiatives to be more green,” Hites said. “The Earth’s resources are being depleted, so good for Planet Sub for attempting to reduce their carbon footprint.”
