Raymond Eugene Wilson, 88, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Thursday, May 5, at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Brother Charles Brant officiating. Interment will follow in Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Raymond was born July 24, 1927, near Bristle Ridge to Finus and Effie May (Graves) Wilson.
Raymond and Floraetta Jean Lyle were married at her parents’ home (Alonzo and Nancy Grace Lyle) in Knob Noster, Missouri, on June 16, 1953.
Raymond served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and returned home to Warrensburg to work at the Daily Star-Journal. It was there where a more than 64-year romance began with Floraetta. They started their family in Columbia where he worked for the Columbia Tribune before returning to the Daily Star-Journal as foreman. He finished his career at the Sedalia Democrat.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Floraetta, of Blue Springs; two sons, Kevin Wilson and wife, Laura; and Jeff Wilson and wife, Jean, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and six grandchildren, Shane Wilson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Trevor Wilson, of St. Louis; and Kara, Olivia, Aaron and Jackie Wilson, all of Lee’s Summit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Homer, Paul, Roy, Kenneth and Russell Wilson; and three sisters, Alta Tyler, Mildred Hillsman and Velma Palmer.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation and can be left in care of the funeral home.
