Robert Leroy Atkinson

Robert Leroy Atkinson Sr., 75, of Chilhowee, Missouri, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at his daughter’s home in Stover, Missouri.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with the Rev. Charles Brant officiating. Interment will follow in the Chilhowee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his children.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Clinton, Missouri, the son of William Thomas Atkinson and Lora Flossie (Barnard) Atkinson. He was married to Delsey L. Wood in 1961 in Sedalia. He had been a Chilhowee resident since 1972. Robert was employed with Labors Local No. 663 for 40 years. He was an asphalt raker at the time of his passing. He loved playing pool and hanging out with friends and family.

Survivors include three daughters, Vickie Dine, of Independence, Missouri; Burgundy Newberry and husband, Scott, of Warrensburg, Missouri; and Arlene “Renae” Monroe and husband, Kendall, of Stover; five sons, Robert Allen Atkinson; Clayton Leroy Atkinson; Ricky Lee Atkinson, all of Independence; Eric Alonzo Atkinson and Robert Leroy Atkinson Jr., both of Chilhowee; two sisters, Charlotte Murphy and husband, Floyd, of Steele, Missouri; and Maryann Rector, of Oak Grove, Missouri; three brothers, Harold Atkinson and wife, Priscilla, of Holden, Missouri; Thomas Atkinson and wife, Edna, of Chilhowee; and Benjamin Franklin Atkinson, of Independence; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Irene Rainey and Opal Casteel; and four brothers, Joe, Earl, Arthur and Tony.
