Robert Irvin Vollrath, 86 of Kingsville, Missouri, died Saturday, April 2, at Autumn Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Raytown.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the First Christian Church in Holden. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Tim Whitmore officiating.  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery at Sweet Springs, with military honors.

Robert was born April 10, 1929, in Marshall, Missouri, the son of Irvin L. and Lily (Curry) Vollrath.  He moved with his family to Sweet Springs at the age of 8 and graduated from Sweet Springs High School.  Robert was united in marriage to Eleanor Jane English on April 14, 1950, in Sweet Springs.  From 1952 to 1954, he served in the United States Army.  Following his discharge from military service, Robert went to work at Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, now known as Honeywell.  His specialty was electronics and he received an Associate Degree from Central Technical Institute of Kansas City Missouri.  He retired in August of 1989.  He was an active member of Kingsville Christian Church, and later, First Christian Church in Holden.  Robert was also very involved in Boy Scouts in years past.  He served one term on Kingsville City Council and 12 years on the Kingsville School Board.

He was a student pilot and flew with his friends for many years. Built his own home and shop in Kingsville and rebuilt a Civil War house with his son. In the 1950s he built a racing boat. In the 1960s he built two drag racing cars. Did all his own auto, home and electronic repairs for many years. He loved traveling and saw two Space Shuttle launches with his wife. He was proud of his work testing electronics for many aerospace programs.  He hunted morel mushrooms for much of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; son: Robert Vollrath of Kingsville; two grandsons: Mark Vollrath of Taylor Falls, MN and Micheal Vollrath and wife, Amanda of Kingsville and three great grandchildren: Cordelia, Denver and Melody Vollrath.  He was preceded in death by his sister: Dorothy Akeman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church in Holden.
