Rosalie Faye Elwell

Rosalie Faye Elwell, 88, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Saturday, July 29, at Harmony Gardens Assisted Living Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the First Christian Church of Warrensburg. Interment will follow in Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Windsor, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

She was born June 13, 1929, in Harrison County, Missouri, the daughter of Ray and Helen (Ross) Snipes.

She and Gene Schell were united in marriage on May 1, 1949, in Martinsville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1990. She and Harold “Bud” Elwell were married on April 2, 1992, in Clinton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1997.

Rosalie began a career in education as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Washington Center, Missouri. After completing a master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University, she was hired as a librarian for more than 20 years by the University of Central Missouri and eventually assumed leadership roles at the library, including interim director.

She was active in several organizations, including the philanthropic organization PEO, the ABC Club of Warrensburg, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the UCM Emeriti Faculty Association. She served several terms as president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of First Christian Church in Warrensburg.

Rosalie is survived by her grandchildren, Justin Suhr and wife, Katya, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Jeff Suhr and fiancée, Carrie Ann Ballenger, of Warrensburg; Jeremiah Johnson of Warrensburg; Josh Johnson of Clinton; Toni Elwell and husband, Matthew Loethen, of Tuscon, Arizona; Daniel Elwell and wife, Emily, of Jasper, Missouri; and Timothy Elwell and wife, Lauren, of St. Louis; her children, Daric Elwell and friend, Nancy Ossenford, of Warrensburg; and Dana Elwell and wife, Annie, of Nixa, Missouri; a sister, Beverly Runyan of Bethany, Missouri; her grandchildren, Anastasiya, Darya, Veronika, Alexandra, Breanna, Garrett, Andrew, Anna and Asher; and close friends, Phil and LuRae Shreves.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Diane Johnson in 1998.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church of Warrensburg or the Kirkpatrick Library and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
