Sally Mathis Moore was born on April 23, 1943 to Aileen and William Mathis In Prophetstown, Illinois. Sally spent her childhood in Prophetstown, surrounded by cousins and family and began sharing her light with all those she met. She attended college at the University of Missouri where she majored in Education and met the love of her life, Jack Moore. Little did she know the years of love, laughter and adventure their 50 years together would bring as they traveled the world and served their country for 27 years in the Army.
Sally stayed home and raised their three daughters before heading to work to serve others, tutoring young soldiers, serving as the chapter manager of the Red Cross and years later as the Program Assistant for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Johnson County. She possessed a precious gift in recognizing the Divine value in every soul she met and treated everyone with a genuine kindness and respect. Her thoughtfulness knew no bounds as she regularly sent care packages, cards and gifts to those next door and those overseas, strangers and friends alike.
Everyone fortunate enough to be in her light was touched by her kindness, warmth, thoughtfulness, selflessness, hospitality, generosity and faithfulness. She never failed to extend help to those most in need and treasured those whose stories she knew like the back of her hand. Sally attended First Baptist Church and cherished her friends in both her small group and JOY class. She extended grace beyond measure and found joy in caring for and serving those around her.
She will be profoundly missed by her family; her beloved husband of 50 years, Jack Moore; daughters, Carrie and son in law, Kerry Hickam and their children, Catherine, Olivia and Aliese, of Columbia, Marty and son in law, Stacey Webb and their children, Jackson, Reagan and Anderson, of Warrensburg, and their daughter, Katie, and son in law, Patrick Sutherland and their children, Georgia, Jack and Ace, of Yorktown, Virginia, and a vast array of special friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Johnson Co.
Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg.
