Shirley D. Strickland, 90, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Sunday, Nov. 22, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Shirley was born June 11, 1925, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Harold and Corinne (Merkt) Rowe.
She married George Lyman Strickland on Feb. 2, 1947, in Independence, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1994.
Shirley graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Christian Church in Dunksburg, a member of the Extension Club 50 of Johnson County, and a member of the LLL Club of Knob Noster. She loved cooking, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Mark Strickland, and wife, Kathy, of La Monte, Missouri; three daughters, Sandy Cunningham, and husband, Leon; Jill Everts and husband, Alan, of Knob Noster; and Jan Swoboda and husband, Dave, of Flower Mound, Texas; one brother, Lee Rowe, of Lincoln, Missouri; six grandsons, Casey Cunningham, and wife, Christina; Kirby Cunningham; Nick Everts; Travis Everts and fiancée, Amanda, all of Knob Noster; Andy Strickland, of Little River, South Carolina; and Todd Strickland, of Blue Springs; and two great-grandchildren, Kolby Cunningham and Cenady Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, great-granddaughter in infancy, Caylee Cunningham in 2007, and one sister, Betty Morlan.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Mount Zion Christian Church northeast of Knob Noster with Brother Gene Smith officiating. Interment followed at Mount Zion Cemetery. Shirley’s grandsons were pallbearers.
Memorial contributions are suggested to West Central Christian Service Camp in La Monte or the Mount Zion Christian Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
