(WARRENSBURG, Mo., digitalBURG) — UCM Public Safety issued a crime alert Tuesday, Feb. 7, after receiving reports of shots fired on campus.

An individual reported shots being fired at about 5:29 p.m. in student parking lot 48 along Holden Street, south of Panhellenic Hall, which houses seven sororities at the University of Central Missouri. Officers arrived at the scene by 5:31 p.m.

Witnesses reported a fight breaking out in the parking lot between two groups, according to a Public Safety incident report. Witnesses said two males involved in the altercation discharged firearms before fleeing the area. No injuries were reported.

Mike Greife, news bureau manager, said all residence halls were locked down until it was determined there was no longer a threat on campus. It is unclear how long the lockdown lasted.

Officers recovered shell casings at the scene and found a vehicle in parking lot 49 with damage to the front and rear windshields, according to the incident report.

University Relations released a statement saying Public Safety is seeking the driver of an older-model white Chevrolet Impala who was observed leaving the scene and may have information regarding the incident.

Greife said since the incident happened earlier in the night, Public Safety has a strong opportunity for finding witnesses and gathering information.
