Mules roll past Cardinals in Rematch
Central Missouri Mules baseball needed just seven innings to defeat the William Jewell Cardinals 14-2.
This is the Mules second game against William Jewell. In their first game, the Cardinals beat Central Missouri 5-0. The Mules have won nine straight and have improved to 10-2 overall record on the season.
UCM had a slightly slow start to the game. Eventually, the Mules had gained an advantage of the Cardinals after the first inning of scoring seven runs. It was a domination over that, as the Mules offense never let go of the lead after putting up four more runs in the second inning to put them up by more than 10 points.
The Mules defense was solid all afternoon after letting the Cardinals get only one run after about six innings.
Five of the Mules baseball players recorded multiple hit games. Eight of the nine Mules starters picked up at least one hit and seven scored a run. This win ties the Mules longest winning streak from last year with nine.
The Mules continue to play in MIAA play on the road Friday, March 3, at 3 p.m. for a three game set against Washburn in Topeka, Kansas.
Fourteen from UCM track and field chosen for national meet
Fourteen from Central Missouri track and field were selected to compete in 11 events at the upcoming NCAA National Indoor Championship.
The list of the accepted entries was announced by the NCAA Tuesday afternoon.
The Mules will be sending seven athletes to compete in eight events. Jesse Miller is the only Mule out of seven to compete in multiple events. He was accepted for both high jump and triple jump. He has also earned an All-American recognition for triple jump.
Three Mules throwers and two pole vaulters were chosen to get the chance to compete. Nathan Cumming, an outdoor All-American in the shot put last year, will look to earn his second award in two weeks.
The Jennies are sending two to compete in individual events, and Hannah VanBuskirk is the only one to do so in multiple events. She set new personal records this year in the pentathlon and the high jump.
Alliah McClendon is the other individual. She qualified in the 60m hurdles after finishing second and running an 8.63 in the MIAA Championship.
The track and field National Championship will be held from Friday to Saturday, March 9-10 in Topeka, Kansas.
Central Missouri Athletics to Hold Fan Gathering for MIAA Basketball
Central Missouri basketball is back in Kansas City for the MIAA Championships.
Before both the Mules and Jennies quarter final round game, UCM will host a pregame fan gathering at Johnny’s Tavern in the Power and Light District, There will be refreshments and other giveaways.
Johnny’s Tavern is located at 1310 Grand Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri.
The reception prior to the Jennies game will take place Thursday, March 1, beginning at 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tip-off for the Jennies at against Lindenwood is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Friday, Mar. 2, will see the Mules in action. The pregame reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. before the Mules tip off at 8:15 p.m.
Should either team advance to the semifinal round Saturday, March 3, the reception, also at Johnny’s, will start around 4:30 p.m. This would be in between the women’s session in the early afternoon and before the men’s session in the evening.
