Jennies pick up twelfth straight win

A strong second half helped the Jennies beat Lindenwood and push their winning streak to twelve.

Trailing 42-41 after two quarters, the defense stepped up holding the Lions to 13-32 shooting down the stretch. Turnovers played a large part with the Jennies forcing a season-high 24 out of the Lions and converting them into 23 points.

Paige Redmond dropped a season-high 27 points on 50 percent shooting while adding five assists and three steals. Megan Skaggs put up 18 points in another stellar shooting performance going 6-9.

The Jennies find themselves in the top 10 of the WBCA Coaches poll this week and first in the MIAA standings with a perfect 9-0 record. Two road games are on the schedule this week as the Jennies will travel to Emporia State Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off and 1 p.m Saturday against Washburn.

Mules fall at home to Lindenwood

Despite a strong shooting performance and a game-high 20 points from Spencer Reaves, the Mules lost to Lindenwood 72-63 Saturday.

The Mules were bullied down low, losing the rebound battle 31-20 and being outscored 34-16 in the paint. Solid second half shooting kept the Mules in the game, but they could never overcome Lindenwood’s superior play in the paint.

Reaves added a team-high seven rebounds to his 20 points and D.J. Richardson managed 13 points but needed 14 shot attempts to get there. The Lions’ Chandler Diekvoss put up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds all while dishing out a game-high five assists.

Moving forward the Mules sit fourth in the MIAA standings with two road games coming up. Thursday night will see the Mules attempt to right the ship against an Emporia State team that sits near the bottom of the conference, tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The biggest test remaining on the schedule will be Washburn in Topeka at 3 p.m. Saturday. The first-place Ichabods suffered their first loss in conference to Pittsburg State Jan. 20 and will look to get back on track with Northwest Missouri State on their heels.

Mules and Jennies earn first place finish at UCM Invitational

The MIAA announced their preseason indoor track and field poll ahead of Friday’s UCM Invitational. Central Missouri was fourth in the rankings and the event Friday would now feature three of the top five teams in the conference, the others being first-ranked Pittsburg State and third-ranked Missouri Southern.

The Mules were dominant as a team scoring 146 points as a team, 20 more than second-place Emporia State. The same could be said for the Jennies as they finished 30 points ahead of the second-place Gorillas.

The next meet for Central Missouri will be the UCM Relays Jan. 25-27 in the Multipurpose Building.
