Collision claims two lives south of town

Two men from St. Louis died in a two-car accident Sunday afternoon near the Route 13 bypass roundabout south of Warrensburg.

The accident occurred at about 4 p.m. when a car driven by Kent Reynolds, 24, of St. Louis, was heading southbound on Route 13, crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound car driven by Walter E. McGirl, 82, or Warrensburg, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Reynolds died at 10:31 p.m. after being taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. His passenger, UCM student Randy K. Diltz,19, of St. Louis, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:16 p.m. by Johnson County Coroner Clark Holdren, according to Highway Patrol reports.

Diltz was in his second year at UCM, majoring in digital media production, according to a university announcement. Both Diltz and Reynolds were not wearing seat belts

McGirl, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Western Missouri Medical Center with minor injuries, according to trooper reports.
