Vada M. Neal, 89, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Thursday, Dec. 3, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Dr. Pete Beard officiating. Pallbearers will be Justin Hosler, Trey Neal, Trenton Neal, Jacob Conner, Dylan Conner and Zachary Jones. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home.
She was born Vada M. Michael on July 4, 1926, in Kiowa, Colorado, to Jesse H. Michael and Clara V. Love Michael. At a young age, the family moved to the Knob Noster/Montserrat area where she graduated from Knob Noster High School in 1945.
Vada was married to Marvin A. Neal on Nov. 18, 1950, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
She worked at Town & Country Shoe Factory, Shephard’s Dry Goods, and Don’s Ceramics, but she was mostly known for her sewing and alterations, which she did for many people throughout Johnson County.
Vada belonged to the VFW Auxiliary Post 2513 where she served as president numerous times and was the 6th District president once. She was a life member of the VFW Post 4195 Auxiliary, a member of the American Legion Post 131 Auxiliary, Lady ELKS, Golden Agers, Royal Neighbors, LL&L, and the AARP club. She volunteered at the Veterans Home and the Warrensburg Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Neal, of Warrensburg; four children, Susan Jones, of Warrensburg;USMC retired Lt. Col. Larry (Patricia) Hosler, of Stafford, Virginia; Sandy Neal, of Osage Beach, Missouri; Terry (Tina) Neal, of Warrensburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Linda Billips, of Bogue, Kansas; and Wanda Neal, of Pueblo, Colorado; and one brother-in-law, Dean Rider, of Mayview, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harry, Samuel and Charles Michael; twin sister, Vera Tresenriter; sister, Anna Lee Rider; and infant grandson, Kyle A. Neal.
Because of her love for all veterans, memorial contributions are suggested to the Veterans Assistance League or V.F.W. Post 4195 Auxiliary in Knob Noster and may be left in care of the funeral home.
