(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Donations to the Tree of Stars program at the Missouri Veterans Home help purchase Christmas presents that are hand-delivered to the residents.
As donations are received, glass stars representing different levels of support are placed on a Christmas tree in the veterans home lobby. Some 200 veterans live at the facility.
The veterans choose between different gift options in an effort to personalize the experience. Gifts are wrapped and hand-delivered, along with a visit from Santa and songs by carolers.
“We understand how tight discretionary budgets are during the holidays, but we are hopeful for continued community support despite difficult economic times,” said Jan Smith, director of volunteer services at the veterans home. “We are thankful for any level of support, and this is one easy way to say thanks to those who have courageously served our nation to ensure they’re not forgotten during the holidays.”
Support levels are as follows: Purple-$200 or more; Gold-$100; Silver-$50; Blue-$25; Red-$10.
Online donations can be made through the Veterans Assistance League website, valwbg.org, or by check payable to Veterans Assistance League Tree of Stars, at 1300 Veterans Rd., Warrensburg, MO 64093.
