William Lewis Burris, 90, died on Friday, Sept. 22, in Warrensburg,
Missouri.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., with funeral service to follow at 11
a.m., both Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Sweeney-Phillips Holdren Funeral Home.
Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pastor Paula Isgrig will be presiding over the services. Pallbearers will be Robert Simmons, Mike Calhoun, Troy Matthews, Tony Matthews, Duane Edmonds, and David Edmonds.
Bill was born on the family farm on May 29, 1927, to Lewis Uel Burris and Neva
Hedgecock Burris. He graduated from Farmer’s High School in the class of 1945. As a
young man, he worked for Robbins Community Country Store and spent his life as a
farmer and stockman. He was a lifetime member of the Salem Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, the Elks Lodge of Warrensburg, and the Knights of Pythias of Odessa. He
enjoyed dancing, playing pitch, and telling stories.
Bill is survived by his brother, James Henry Burris, of Odessa, Missouri; friend, Karen Edmonds,
of Lexington, Missouri; and numerous cousins and dear friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Uel and Neva; and a two-year- old brother, Uel Francis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Ferguson, Tom Thompson, Steve
Robbins, Galen Harmon, Larry Kincheloe, and Jerry Shier.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church in his memory.
