(SIKESTON, Mo., AP) — A top NBA draft pick who led his southeast Missouri high school to three straight state championships is receiving a permanent honor in Sikeston.
The Sikeston Standard-Democrat (bit.ly/13kgMyt) reports the Scott County Central School District has declared Friday as Otto Porter Jr. Day. And the gym floor at Scott Central High School will be dedicated on Friday night as the Otto Porter Jr. Court.
Porter led the school to three Class 1 state titles before playing two years at Georgetown. This year, the Washington Wizards chose Porter with the third pick in June’s NBA Draft.
Porter was the Big East player of the year last season and finished second in the voting behind Michigan’s Trey Burke for The Associated Press player of the year award.
