Marcia R. Skaar, 59, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday, Aug. 31, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg with Pastor Joel Kurz officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Olson, Troy Smotherman, Travis Smotherman, Bjorn Helgeson, Kevin Howard and Paris Rucker.

Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, with full military honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

She was born June 11, 1955, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Martha (Frost) Hagen. Marcia was baptized at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, Iowa, and later confirmed at Northfield Lutheran Church in Northfield, Wisconsin. She graduated from Whitehall High School in Whitehall, Wisconsin, in 1973. Next, she graduated from McConnell Airline School flight attendant program in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Marcia met Stewart Skaar in the summer of 1974 while working as a waitress at Steven’s Interstate Center in Hixton, Wisconsin. Marcia and Stewart were united in marriage on March 28, 1975, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, following a huge snowstorm that year and were married 39 years. Marcia and Stewart enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, entering basic training together on June 16, 1975. Master Sergeant Marcia R. Skaar retired in 2002 after a 27-year Air Force career of combined active duty and reserve service as a dental technician. She was employed with Amy’s Loving Care home health care service as a care giver and office assistant for 10 years. Marcia was a member of American Legion Post 131 and a Patriot Guard Rider. Marcia had great faith in God and was a devoted member of the Bethlehem Lutheran’s women’s group, serving the congregation and community. Marcia was a strong willed, devoted, and fun loving mother and wife.   She was a kind, caring person who reached out to those in need. She made many friends as she enjoyed life’s simple treasures along the way. She so loved her entire family and many friends.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Stewart; two sons, Joel Skaar of Independence, Missouri; and Jesse Skaar of Warrensburg; two sisters, Elaine Schulze of Hemet, California; and Marlene Olson of Blaine, Minnesota; four brothers, Orville Hagen and wife, Lynda, of Hixton, Wisconsin; Orland Hagen and wife, Patricia, of Northfield, Wisconsin; Jewell Hagen and wife, Julie, of Alma Center, Wisconsin; and Roger Hagen and wife, Trudy, of Northfield, Wisconsin; brother in-law, Lucky Smotherman, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Delores Smotherman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Head for the Cure, and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
