Mules baseball sweeps MIAA doubleheader from Pittsburg State

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Central Missouri Mules swept the first two games of their four-game series with Pittsburg State, winning 6-1 and 16-6 in an MIAA doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
In game one, the Mules (10-7, 7-3 MIAA) plated two runs in the second, third and fourth innings to open a 6-0 lead. Barrett Noirfalise doubled and scored on an error and Trevor Jones singled home the second run in the second. Dylan Hanson singled home a run in the third and Matt Molbury added a sac fly to make it 4-0. Brad Wilson had an RBI double and Tony Sandifer added an RBI single in the fourth.

The Gorillas (5-8, 4-6 MIAA) got on the board with a single run in the fifth on an RBI groundout.

Jake Heissler (4-1) got the win for UCM scattering seven hits and giving up one unearned run in a complete game seven innings.

Tyler Thompson (1-3) took the loss for PSU, giving up six runs on 10 hits in six innings.

UCM grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning of game two. Jake Alexander singled home the first run of the game and Noirfalise added a two-run single.

The Gorillas plated two in the top of the fourth to pull within 3-2 on Cody Ball’s two-run double, but UCM came back with seven runs in the bottom half to open a 10-2 lead. Sandifer had a two-run double in the inning as the Mules racked up seven runs on four hits in the frame.

UCM tacked on three more in the fifth. Wilson had a sac fly as did Sandifer and Molbury singled in the third run. The Gorillas scored four times in the sixth, but Central Missouri plated three more in the bottom half for the 16-6 lead and the 10-run rule. Wilson smacked a two-run home run in the frame and Dusty Maas scored on a wild pitch.

Ricky Rivera (3-0) picked up the win in game two allowing five runs on six hits in five innings pitched. George Brandecker (0-3) took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits in three innings.

Wilson finished the day 3-for-6 with a double, home run and five RBI. Sandifer and Noirfalise each drove in four and Jones scored four runs on the day.

The series wraps up on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
