(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Central Missouri Mules wrestling squad won their first MIAA dual of the season 33-12 over Truman State on Friday afternoon in the UCM Multipurpose building.
After starting the match with a forfeit at 125 pounds, Hunter Neighbors (133) pinned Rafel Lopez at 4:49 to tied up the dual at 6-6.
Eric Mateo (141) gave the Mules a six-point lead with a pin over Andrew Still at 2:50. No. 3 Frank Cagnina (149) won his second match against Ryan Maus this season with a 13-4 major decision to give the Mules a 16-6 lead.
Truman’s Colton Schmitz won the Bulldogs’ only match of the dual, pinning Zeb Spicer at 2:11. Josh Thomson (165) beat Devon Fenstermaker with a 6-3 decision, followed by a win by technical fall from the Mule’s No. 7 Ty Loethen (174) over Chase Wrisinger.
The Mules’ final three wrestlers, Josh Ploof (184), Todd Brier (197) and Jacob Clark(285) all won by decision over Ryan Ward, Helmut Rentschler and Ben Dudley respectively.
The Mules will travel to Marshall, Mo., for the Missouri Valley Invitational. The invitational will began Friday and continues Saturday.
