Jennies softball team returns for a six game homestand

The Jennies softball team (15-11) returns home for a six-game homestand after a 5-3 performance last week. UCM swept Missouri S&T last Wednesday and split six games in the Missouri Western Regional Crossover over the weekend.
UCM will host Drury University on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m., completing two re-scheduled games from March 5. The Jennies will then welcome MIAA foes, Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma to town this weekend. UCM will host the RiverHawks in 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and battle UCO in a 1 p.m. double-dip on Saturday.
Freshman Lindsey Dawson led the team in batting last week with a .542 average (13-for-24), earning her MIAA/AstroTurf Hitter of the Week honors. Dawson added five RBI’s, three doubles and scored six runs. She enters the week ranked sixth in the conference in batting with a .398 average.
Junior utility player Jakki Prater went yard three times and drove in nine runs in eight games last week. She owns the second most homeruns (14) and RBI’s (35) in the MIAA through the first 26 games of 2014. She is now ranked second on the Jennies’ single-season homerun list, trailing only Rachel Adams, who hit 16 in 2006. Prater’s career homerun total stands at 25, tied with Adams for second-most in program history.
In the circle, Prater picked up three wins last week, while junior Katie Shockley earned the other two. Both hurlers started three games and went the distance in two of their three starts.
