The Warrensburg High School golf team edged Jefferson City by two strokes Monday to claim first place in a four-team competition at the Sedalia Country Club.
Warrensburg came out on top with a team score of 158. Jefferson City was second with 160, followed by Sedalia, 176, and Harrisonville, 185.
Hagan Zinecker was a medalist, shooting a two-over-par 37. Bailey Woods took second with a 38. Brett Ballard tied for sixth with a 41, and JD Pedersen tied for seventh with a 42.
“Hagan Zinecker had his best competitive round in competition today and I was really proud of the way he managed the course today,” said Tigers coach Guy Albert. “He only hit his driver on two occasions and used his 5 iron off the tee for the rest of the day and left himself short approach shots to the green. Hagan is very strong and very capable of playing solid golf on a regular basis. Freshly sanded greens proved a challenge to many on the course as putting conditions were unreliable as a result.”
Warrensburg is back in action on Wednesday at Hidden Pines for 9-hole match against Harrisonville, St. Pius and Clinton at 4 p.m.
