Two national champions, five All-Americans crowned on day one of NCAA Championships

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) – The Jennies scored 29 points Thursday to lead all teams on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships as they look to defend their indoor championship.Heavin Warner successfully defended her title in the hammer throw, winning the event in back-to-back years. She threw 211-1 and was the only competitor with a mark of over 200 feet. She becomes UCM’s first back-to-back champion since Lindsey Lettow in 2011-12.

Brittany Kallenberger, competing in her first outdoor championship meet, made it one-for-one as she claimed the Jen’s second national title of the day. She jumped 13-1.5 to be crowned champion.

Erika Kinsey and Megan Glamann were the two other All-Americans for the Jennies. For Glamann, a senior, competing in her first ever National Championship meet, it was her first career All-American. She finished in fifth place in the 10,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 34:54.32.

Kinsey claimed her fourth All-American honor in her freshman season. She took fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 21-2.5, bettering her own school record. Kinsey, who’s best jump came on her second jump of the day, was in the lead until the final round.

Caniggia Raynor was named All-American for the Mules. He placed fifth in the hammer throw at 203-7.

Nikki Douglas competed in her second straight National Championships in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished in 16th placed in 1:02.04.

Central Missouri had five athletes compete in the multi-events, three for the Jennes and two for the Mules. After four events of the heptathlon, Zoe Sharplin is in second place with 3,286 points and Madison Smith is fourth with 3,254 points. Victoria Jackson scored 2,217 points and is in 19th place. Smith and Sharplin finished second and third in the 100-meter hurdles and Sharplin took second in the shot put.

For the Mules, Blake Seitz is tied for seventh-place in the decathlon with a score of 3,638. Tyler Chancellor is 13th at 2,991. Seitz finished third in both the shot put and high jump, Chancellor was fourth in the 100-meter dash.

The finals of the multi-events began Friday morning. Also competing will be Warner and Brooke Swearingin in the discus, Kinsey and Smith in the high jump, and Smith and Sharplin in the 100-meter hurdles. For the Mules, Raynor is back for his second event, the discus, Kellin Loch is in the 800-meter run and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team will be in action.
