Evelyn Marie Evans, 87, Lone Jack, Missouri, died Oct. 2 at Holden Manor Care Center, Holden, Missouri.

Evelyn was born Jan. 26, 1930, to Mark Merle Sechrest and Bessie Belle (Hurr) in rural Holden, Missouri. She accepted the Lord as her savior at the Jurden School Revival in March 1942. Evelyn attended Stout School and graduated from Holden High School in 1947. Evelyn continued her education at Central Missouri State University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Elementary Administration and Supervision in 1974. Evelyn served as the Elementary Principal in Lone Jack from 1969 to 1990, when she retired. Evelyn always enjoyed reading, computer research, puzzles, gardening, taking care of her cows and calves and her cat Frisky.

Surviving her passing are three sons, Ronnie McGowen and wife Jeany, Warrensburg, Missouri; Randy McGowen and Wife Tyra, Lone Jack, Missouri; Kim McGowen, Lone Jack, Missouri. one daughter, Kathy Smith and Husband Wayne, Kingsville, Missouri. one brother Merrill E. Sechrest and wife Pauline, Holden, Missouri, five sisters, Dorothy Wakeman, Holden, Missouri, Mary Bracher, Higginsville, Missouri, Darlene Wise and husband Ronnie, Arkansas, Donna K. Justice and husband Jerry, Riverside, Missouri, and Linda Kirchoff and husband David, Holden, Missouri. 15  Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren.

She was Preceded in death by two husbands, Glen McGowen and Otis Evans, two brothers, John Sechrest and Kenny Sechrest.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial contribution be made in memory of Evelyn Evans to the Holden Baptist Temple.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Holden Baptist Temple, 605 North Lexington, Holden, Missouri. A Celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. with Interment at the Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit Missouri.
