(EMPORIA, Kan.) – Juniors Zoe Sharplin and Erin Alewine, along with sophomore Victoria Jackson took the top three spots in the heptathlon at the Emporia State Multi-Events. Sharplin won her first career outdoor heptathlon, totaling 5,050 points to pick up a provisional qualifying mark for the upcoming NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & FIeld Championships. Alewine (4,914 pts.) and Jackson (4,594) also earned provisionals at Emporia State.

The trio of Jennies won first place in all seven events of the heptathlon, dominating the event from start to finish. Sharplin started the event on the right foot on Thursday afternoon, winning the 100-meter hurdles to open the event with a time of 14.55. Alewine followed that performance up with a victory in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5′ 4.5″ (1.64m).

The third Jennie in three events to claim a victory was Jackson, who posted the top mark in the shot put, throwing for 40′ 3.25″ (12.27m). After the first day of competition, Sharplin held the overall lead through four events, with 3,082 points. Alewine was second after the competition on Thursday with 2,899 points, and Jackson sat third, with 2,866 points.

Alewine picked up a pair of victories on Friday, taking first place in the long jump to open day two of competition, with a jump of 18′ 5.25″ (5.62m). Alewine also won the 800-meter run to close out the heptathlon, winning in a time of 2:21.70. Sharplin claimed the javelin throw, with a toss of 132′ 2″ (40.28m) to earn a provisional mark in that event.

Two freshmen also competed for the Jennies, with Brittany Kallenberger placing 7th in the 27-athlete field, with 3,953 points. Danielle Wigginton finished 16th, with 3,475 points.

Sharplin now moves into third place on the NCAA Division II performance list, and holds the top mark in the MIAA this season. Alewine is now in 6th place in the nation, and Jackson ranks 14th nationally. The Jennies have the top heptathlon scores in the MIAA this year, and four of the top six in the conference.

The Mules and Jennies track & field squad travel to Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon, for the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic. Field events will kick off at 11 a.m. followed by the track beginning at 2 p.m.
