The 2018 President’s Lawn Concert and ice cream social is set for Monday at Selmo Park on the University of Central Missouri campus.
The event, which is free and open to the public, begins with an ice cream social at 6 p.m. with service provided by members of the university campus.
The Warrensburg Community Band is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. under the direction of Russell Coleman, professor emeritus of music and former chair of the department of music at UCM.
Jeff Murphy, assistant director of media relations, said Selmo Park, which was the former site of the university president’s residence, offers a nice park-like setting.
“It’s kind of a picnic type of environment and local residents and members of the campus community will enjoy an opportunity to come out and enjoy some music and ice cream,” he said.
This year’s concert will also offer attendees an opportunity to bid farewell to President Chuck Ambrose. After serving as UCM’s president for eight years, Ambrose has found a new job as president and CEO of KnowledgeWorks in Cincinnati, Ohio. He begins his new job Sept. 1.
“He has hosted the lawn concert for eight years, so it’s a special opportunity for individuals to come and thank him for his service,” Murphy said. “For many individuals, it will be an opportunity to meet with him in what will certainly be his last official role as the host of this event.”
Limited seating is available for the event, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, according to a news release.
