Bald eagle rescued at Table Rock Lake

(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., AP) — An injured bald eagle got a little help from a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper.

The Springfield News-Leader reports (http://j.mp/2aA0jA3) operators of a houseboat at Table Rock Lake on Saturday found the bald eagle on their boat, apparently unable to fly, so they sought help from the patrol, which has officers in boats on the lake.

Trooper Andy Ward managed to catch the bird and bring him to conservation agents who took it to the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield.

Zoo spokeswoman Joey Powell says the eagle has a broken leg that healed, but there appears to be nerve damage, possibly limiting the bird’s ability to fly. She says the bird can’t be release to the wild, but the zoo will work to find the bird a home.
