C. Avery Brandt, 82, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, at his home.

He was born in Valley City, Missouri, on Aug. 29, 1933, the son of Claude Adrian and Katie (Sproat) Brandt.

Avery attended elementary school in Valley City and graduated from Warrensburg High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army and traveled to Germany.

He and Thelma Mae Parsons were married on Nov. 12, 1956, in Warrensburg. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2001.

Avery was a union carpenter by trade and loved to work in wood as can be seen in the art and furniture created by his hands. He was an avid hunter and loved nature. He rarely spent an entire day indoors and could often be spotted taking a ride on his Gator with his dog. He enjoyed raising livestock and small animals. Avery instilled these values in his children. He showed an immense amount of love for his family. Avery was a lifelong baseball enthusiast. He rarely missed listening to or watching the KC Royals. He also followed Mules baseball and football.

Avery is survived by two daughters, Sherie Snider, and husband, Charles, of Kimberling City, Missouri; and Cindy Jo Hunter, of Springfield, Missouri; a sister, Claudine Grier, of Warrensburg; two grandsons, Wesley Hunter, and wife, Ame, of Marshfield, Missouri; and Jeff Snider, of Warsaw, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Benjamin and Nathaniel Hunter; a special nephew, Larry Brandt, and wife, Danna, of Warrensburg; and their family, Macae McKinley, and husband, Dustin; and Teagan Harrison and husband, Chad, and their children, Emerald, Elexis, Elias “Buddy,” Reid and Danna Kate; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Jeffrey Allen Brandt; a brother, Martin Sonny Brandt; and a sister, Tillie Rehkop.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Brant officiating. Interment followed the service at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors by Warrensburg American Legion Post 131 and Warrensburg VFW Post 2513. Pallbearers were Dustin McKinley, Chad Harrison, Larry Brandt, Gary Rehkop, Jeff Snider and Andy Munsterman. Honory pallbearers were Bob Williams, Jim Kimbley, Paul Mitsdarffer, Forrest Rabel and Phillip Weinberger.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Johnson County Cancer Foundation and can be left in care of the funeral home.
