Derald Albertson

Derald Gene Albertson, 77, of Chilhowee, Missouri died Sunday, Nov. 6, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, with The Rev. Daryl Gaddy, of Lighthouse Tabernacle and The Rev. John Mark Allen, of First Assembly of God, officiating. Interment will follow in the Chilhowee Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors provided by United States Navy Honor Guard.  Pallbearers will be Paul Kreher, Mike McMurray, Mike Strawmyer, Tommie Whetzell, Charles Nixon and Ian Kreher.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Dorr, Eric Eaton, and Keith Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Derald was born April 17, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Jesse A. Albertson and Rutha Mae (Whetzell) Albertson. He graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City. He served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1978. Derald was united in marriage to Margaret Pearl “Margie” Davis on May 30, 1978 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Independence for over twenty years. During this time, he worked as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office. In 1999, he and Margie moved to an acreage near Chilhowee. Derald drove a school bus for the Chilhowee School District until retiring. He was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle in Pittsburg, Kansas, First Assembly of God in Warrensburg and American Legion, Post #131. He was a volunteer at the Warrensburg Veterans Home and the Johnson County Workshop for several years. Derald especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughter, Sharon McMurray and husband, Mike of Chilhowee; two sons, Dale Strawmyer and wife, Mary ,of California, Missouri, and Michael Strawmyer and wife, Doneva, of Liberal, Missouri; two sisters, Karen Sue Cox, of Liberal, and JoAnn Clark, of DeLand, Florida; five grandchildren, Charity Kreher and husband, Ian, of Roanoke, VA; Courtney Nixon and husband, Charles, of Chilhowee, Missouri; Amanda Smith, of Liberal; Kaylee Strawmyer, of Liberal, and Clint Strawmyer, of California; and four great-grandchildren, Harleigh, Bryce, Briley and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie; his parents and an infant brother.
