Free classes in Native American crafts
March 12, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
The religious studies program at the University of Central Missouri and the Trading Moon Powwow are offering a series of free classes in various Native American crafts beginning Saturday. The organizers are providing the supplies for the classes. The class on Saturday will take place at UCM in the Wood Building, Room 105, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will make a leather medicine bag, choose the contents of that bag from the supplied traditional contents, and receive instruction in the meaning and use of the various kinds of medicine. Instructors will also provide ideas for and examples of tradition-appropriate decoration of the bags.
The class on Saturday, March 26, will take place at the ABC Building near the Warrensburg Community Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants will make soft leather moccasins. Instructors will also provide ideas for and examples of tradition-appropriate decoration of the moccasins.
