The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, and again from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday, March 30, at Community of Christ Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Community of Christ Church with Elder ElGene VerDught officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Roy Lohman, Melvin Simon, Rick Schmidli, Gregory Porter, Jared VerDught and Conrad Brock. Honorary pallbearers will be the Warrensburg Kiwanis Club.

Harold was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Cowgill, Missouri, the son of Earl and Mary (Moffitt) Craven. At the age of 8, he was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ Church.

He and Sherralyn Denning were married on Aug. 7, 1955, in Richmond, Missouri.

Harold was a 1958 charter member of Kiwanis International, serving 57 years with distinction as president, secretary and lieutenant governor. He received the distinguished International Kiwanis Fellow Foundation Award, Hixson Diamond and Zeller Diamond awards.

He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. He served 37 years in Warrensburg banking and as secretary of the board, beginning with Citizen’s Bank.

Harold was a volunteer at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City for 14 years. He was a member of the Warrensburg Community of Christ Church where he served as an elder. He served on the Johnson County Historical Society Board.

Harold is survived by his wife, Sherralyn, of the home; a brother, Kenneth Craven, and wife, Pat, of Liberty, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Craven, of Lee’s Summit.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Craven, and a sister, Margaret Genevieve Smith.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Craven Nursing Scholarship Fund at Children’s Mercy Hospital Foundation or the Craven Actuarial Science Scholarship Fund at UCM Foundation and can be left in care of the funeral home.
