Jennies second, Mules third at MIAA track championships

(ST. CHARLES, Mo.) – Central Missouri track and field wrapped up the MIAA Championships with the Jennies taking second place with 164 points and the Mules third place with 111 points. UCM won 15 individual titles over the weekend.

Pittsburg State was both the men’s and women’s champions.

Heavin Warner won her second and third MIAA championships of the weekend on Sunday. First, she won gold in the shot put, throwing 47-10.5. She then won the hammer throw with a mark of 220-2 to repeat as MIAA champion.

Also claiming multiple MIAA titles was Erika Kinsey. She set a new meet and school record in the high jump, jumping 6-3.5, tying the third best jump in Division II history. Madison Smith, who finished second in the heptathlon, also took second in the high jump at 5-8.75.

Kinsey wasn’t finished as she also set a new school record winning the triple just. She became the first Jennie to ever jump 43 feet in the event, getting an NCAA automatic mark of 43-0.25.

Both Warner and Kinsey shared the High Point award with 30 points each.

NCAA indoor All-American Cole Phillips won his second MIAA title in the pole vault. Phillips jumped 17-7.5 to set a new PR and is now second-best all-time at UCM. Phillips also won the vault at the MIAA Indoor Championships.

Kellin Loch was the final MIAA individual champion on the day. He claimed his first outdoor conference title in the 800m run. Loch, who also won the indoor 800m run, took the outdoor title in 1:50.34.

The Jennies had four make the finals of the 100m hurdles. Madison Smith and Zoe Sharplin both set personal-bests as they finished third and fourth respectively. Smith ran a 13.94 while Sharplin ran 13.96. Jennifer Sartorio(14.36) and Victoria Jackson (14.37) finished seventh and eighth.

Kailey Fuchs became the first Jennie to ever run sub-56.00 in the 400m dash. Fuchs set the school record yesterday in the preliminary round and then broke it again in the finals. She ran 55.83 to finish fifth and provisionally qualify for nationals.

In the men’s 400m, Osvaldo Granillo (48.83) and Michael Lockhart (49.88) both scored for the Mules finishing sixth and eighth, respectively.

Nikki Douglas scored for the Jens in a pair of events. First, she became the fourth fastest Jennie ever when she placed sixth in the 100m dash in 12.13. She later placed fourth in the 400m hurdles running 59.99, an NCAA provisional mark.

Megan Glamann, the winner in last night’s 10,000m run finished second in the 5K. She ran 17:44.21 to claim her second MIAA medal. Ben Barrows also finished second in the 5K for the Mules, he ran a PR 15:11.21.

Also in the distance events, Adam Tredway finished second in the 1500m run in 3:57.44 and Allie Rexroat finished fourth for the Jennies in the 3,000m steeplechase in 11:24.74.

The Mules got some points in the jumps from George Charalambous and Andre Wooten. Charalambous finished second in the high jump at 6-6.25. Wooten jumped 47-9.75 in the triple jump, a provisional qualifying mark, to place sixth.

In the throws, Jacob Mahin placed fifth in the shot put throwing 54-7.5. Blake Seitz scored for the Mules in his second event of the championships. Seitz finished fifth yesterday in the decathlon and today placed eighth in the javelin throwing the spear 183-1.

In the relays, the Jennies 4x100m squad ran the fifth fastest time in team history when they passed the baton around in 47.59, good for fifth place. The men’s team finished in sixth place in 42.20.

The 4x400m relay closed out the track events. The Mules ran a provisional qualifying time of 3:12.36 to finish second. The Jennies ran 3:49.64 to place third.

UCM has one more meet scheduled before the NCAA Championships May 21-23. That’s the ESU Qualifiers, next weekend, May 9, hosted by Emporia State.
