(MANKATO, Minn.) — The Central Missouri Jennies soccer team (0-1-1) dropped its first match of the season against the Minnesota State Mavericks, 3-0 in Mankato on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks struck first at 63:02 off the foot of Courtney Vallarellie to give Minnesota State a 1-0 advantage. Nearly 7 1/2 minutes later, Sidney Temple set up Kiana Nickel for the second score past Central Missouri goalkeeper Morgan Hartzler to put Minnesota State ahead, 2-0. Nickel registered her second goal of the afternoon at 86:18 on an assist from teammate Laura Pivovar, providing the Mavericks with a 3-0 lead.
The Jennies were able to muster just eight shots on the afternoon, being outscored 23-8. Hannah Moran and Carly Stanley each tallied two shot attempts to lead the team (both on-goal for Stanley). Hartzler recorded three saves for the second-consecutive game in all 90 minutes.
The Jennies will make their 2013 home debut against University of Mary on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
