(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Jennies Soccer team saw their season come to an end Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Quarterfinals as they fell in penalty kicks to Grand Valley State 3-2 after finishing regulation and both overtimes tied 1-1.
The Jens began the game aggressively as they put up four shots in the first 11 minutes of the game. Grand Valley State recorded their first shot in the 14th minute of action.
The Jens got on the scoreboard first in the 19th minute thanks to Jada Scott. Scott received the ball from Abby Rhodes, then scored into the top of the goal for her 11th goal of the season. The Jennies took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Lakers responded quickly and scored merely 49 seconds into the second half to tie the game at 1.
Neither team scored again for the rest of the game thanks to a few acrobatic saves from both goalkeepers.
The Jennies saw their first two shots blocked in the shootout, while Grand Valley made good on their first, but not their second attempt. Central Missouri failed again on their third shot attempt, while the Lakers scored to take a 2-0 advantage in the shootout. Julie Ireland scored on their fourth attempt to cut the deficit to 2-1. Grand Valley missed their fourth chance, and the Jennies took advantage to tie up the shootout at two when Jada Scott made good on her opportunity. Grand Valley made their fifth attempt and won the shootout.
Ana Dilkes played all 110 minutes in goal for the Jennies and recorded nine saves while allowing one goal.
The Jens ended the 2015 season 21-2-1, and won the MIAA regular season title, MIAA Tournament title and the Central Region title.
