Jennies track and field ranked 15th in national poll

(NEW ORLEANS) – Coming off of their 2015 Indoor National Championship, the Jennies track team enters the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) rankings at No. 15. in the second week of outdoor rankings.

It is important to note that the USTFCCCA rankings are based solely on 2015 outdoor performances. To this point, the Jennies have only competed at the Angleo State Spring Break Multi Meet, where three UCM athletes participated.

One of those three, was Madison Smith who was the top collegiate finisher in the heptathlon and currently has the highest score in the event in the NCAA. She scored 5262 points, a new personal-best and automatic NCAA qualifier, less than a week after competing in the pentathlon at indoor nationals. In the high jump portion of the heptathlon, Smith set a new outdoor school record, jumping 5-11.5, also automatically qualifying for outdoor nationals.

Katie Cassidy also provisionally qualified for nationals in the heptathlon at the Angelo State meet, setting a new PR with 4553 points.

Both the Jennies and the Mules full teams will be in action this Saturday, March 28 at the Pittsburg State Open.
