(Lincoln, Neb., digitalBURG) — The University of Central Missouri’s Gamma Epsilon Delta Chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association’s Lambda Alpha Epsilon returned to campus Sunday, Oct. 9, with its 15th consecutive regional win and was the recipient of the highly coveted Sweepstakes Trophy.

Competitions took place in Lincoln, Nebraska, where 51 UCM students and five UCM professionals competed against eight other Region III colleges and universities.

GED received 57 individual and team trophies (or medals) out of the 90 awarded. The trophies are based on testing in five academic subject areas, a crime scene investigation, physical agility, shooting competitions and an academic poster competition. The academic testing portion of the competition involves corrections, criminal law, juvenile justice, LAE knowledge and police management.

Trophies or medals were issued for wining 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place. In total, 42 UCM students received trophies, medals and/or certificates. Advisors Gregg Etter, Richard Gillespie, Roger Pennel and Sherri DioGuardi all won awards in the professional competition categories.

From a total of 45 academic proficiency trophies awarded, LAE-GED took home 29. Certificates were also issued for placing 4th through 10th in academic testing, and 49 certificates were issued to UCM student members of LAE-GED.

LAE-GED continues to grow and succeed. GED members will be traveling to Austin, Texas, for the National Competitions in March 2017, where they hope to retain their championship status. If LAE-GED triumphs in Austin, that will represent its 15th consecutive national win.
