(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — Trailing by as many as 11 points with under 14 minutes left, the Jennies came from behind to score 30 points in the final 13 1/2 minutes to knock off visiting Central Oklahoma, 63-58, at the Multipurpose Building on Thursday night.

The Jennies improved to 7-3 overall and picked up their first conference win of the season to even their MIAA mark at 1-1 with the win. UCM had three players score in double-figure points, led by senior Jasmine Thompson, who finished with 18. Senior Revonnia Howard collected her 10th career double-double and fourth this season (14 points, 12 rebounds).

After falling behind by 12 with just under nine minutes left in the first half, the Jennies were able to stay close with the Bronchos, trailing by just 10 at the half. The Jennies’ defense created 20 turnovers in the first half, but the offense committed 15 fouls of their own, as the Bronchos held a 19-8 lead in points off turnovers.

Thompson gave the Jens an offensive boost in the second half, nailing a pair of jumpers to help bring the deficit to seven points at 38-31 with nearly 16 1/2 minutes left.

Central Oklahoma pushed its lead back to double digits over the next 5:10, but seven unanswered points by the Jennies cut the deficit to 46-42 with 10:09 left on the clock.

After trading baskets on the next two possessions, junior Shelby Winkelmann was fouled and hit a pair of free throws to make it a two-point game with seven minutes remaining.

With 5:19 left, Thompson converted on a layup to knot the game at 48 apiece, the game’s first tie since the 12:23 mark in the first half (13-13).

After a three-pointer by Central Oklahoma’s Julia Mason, senior Justina Prairie Chief hit a triple of her own to even the score at 51-51 with just over four minutes left. After exchanging buckets on the next two possessions, Howard gave the Jennies a 54-53 lead after splitting a pair of free throws.

The Jennies took advantage of two missed three throws by Mason and received a trey by Thompson on the next offensive possession to open up a 57-53 lead.

Following a defensive stop, Thompson put the game in doubt after hitting a jump shot with 1:28 left to put the Jennies ahead by six points.

UCM’s lead never dipped below three points for the remainder of the game, as the Jennies remained undefeated against UCO in the all-time series (6-0).

In the game’s second half, the Jennies shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the floor and deposited 11-of-13 free throws (84.6 percent), outscoring UCO, 39-24.

Thirteen of Thompson’s team-high 18 points came after halftime.

The Jennies end the week with a home matchup against Northeastern State this Sunday, Dec. 20 for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
