Man charged with shooting at Springfield police

(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., AP) — A Springfield man accused of firing a gun at police officers is charged with five felonies.

The Springfield News-Leader (http://sgfnow.co/29RmT45) reports that the charges were filed Tuesday in Greene County Circuit Court against 25-year-old Brandon Cover. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

The probable cause statement says the shots were fired Monday morning while officers were responding to reports of a man with a gun who was asking for a ride because the police were after him. Cover is accused of running when officers spotted him walking in a parking lot.

Authorities say Cover took out a handgun and fired toward the officers who were chasing him. No one was hit. The statement says Cover told officers he was high on meth during the chase.
